Privacy Policy
Privacy in a nutshell: We don't store your data.
Pace is built local-first. We do not require an account, we do not operate user tracking databases, and we do not sell your personal information. Your tasks, project plans, focus history, and habits live directly on your iPhone.
1. Overview & Core Philosophy
At Pace ("we", "our", or "us"), we build software designed for calm, single-task focus. Respecting your cognitive space begins with respecting your personal privacy. Unlike traditional task managers that upload your thoughts and daily life to cloud databases, Pace is architected to be offline-first and device-centric.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- No User Accounts: You do not sign up with an email, password, phone number, or social login.
- No Task Databases on External Servers: Your tasks, checklists, project titles, notes, and completion history remain stored strictly inside your device's local storage (via iOS sandbox).
- No Location Data: We never request, access, or track your GPS or physical location.
- No Third-Party Advertising Trackers: Pace contains zero advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or cross-app data brokerage.
3. Data Processed When You Use Specific Features
When you explicitly interact with specific optional features in Pace, limited data is handled as described below:
A. AI Task Decomposition & Refinement (Google Gemini)
When you ask Pace to generate or refine steps for a project, the short text description of your project or requested revision is sent ephemerally to our AI model provider (Google Cloud / Gemini API). This request is made solely to generate the requested step breakdown and return it directly to your app. Neither Pace nor Google uses your prompts to build personal profiles or serve advertisements.
B. Voice Dictation & Audio Processing
When you use voice input to speak a task, your audio is processed using your device's built-in speech recognition framework (Apple Speech) or ephemeral model transcription. Audio recordings are never retained on our servers or sold to third parties.
C. In-App Subscriptions & Purchases (Apple & RevenueCat)
Pace offers an optional Pace Pro subscription. Purchases are processed exclusively through Apple App Store In-App Purchases (StoreKit). We use RevenueCat to validate subscription receipts and manage entitlement status. When a receipt is validated, RevenueCat processes an anonymous, pseudonymous app user ID and purchase timestamp to verify active subscription status. Pace never has access to your credit card number, billing address, or payment credentials.
4. On-Device Storage & Data Retention
All your tasks, preferences, and session data are stored locally on your device using native sandboxed storage. Because we do not store your data on external servers:
- You have full control: You can clear your task history or reset your profile directly from the app at any time.
- Deleting the App: Deleting the Pace app from your device automatically removes all locally stored data. We have no way to restore deleted local data.
5. Live Activities & iOS Widgets
Pace supports iOS Live Activities and Home Screen Widgets. Timer state and the current step action are shared strictly between the Pace container app and its native widget extension via an encrypted local iOS App Group on your device. No widget data is transmitted over the internet.
6. Children's Privacy
Pace is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). Because we do not require account creation or collect personal information, we do not knowingly gather data from children.
7. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA / CPRA)
Under regulations like the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users have rights regarding access, portability, and deletion of their personal data. Because Pace stores all personal task data locally on your device without user accounts, you exercise these rights directly on your device by viewing, modifying, or deleting your data in the app or removing the app.
8. Changes to This Policy
If we update our privacy practices, we will post the revised policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will provide a prominent notice within the app.
